We had the opportunity to visit Young Nick’s Station.
It was an amazing experience for me. I found the
walk tough but I enjoyed running down the hills. We
had amazing views over the ocean from the top of the
hills.

I really enjoyed having the opportunity to touch a
tuatara. I have never touched one before. I could not
believe how soft it was. I thought it would be much
harder. Steve had lots of knowledge about them as
well.

It was also really great to see some of the birds that
live in the wetlands and at the beach. I enjoyed finding
out about the pateke because we read a story at school
about it. I also enjoyed seeing all the pests. I have
never seen a ferret or a weasel before. I did not
realise the ferret could grow so big.

It was fantastic to see blue penguins even though
they were dead. They were much smaller than I
thought. I liked seeing them because we are learning
about them at school and we are going to make penguin
breeding houses.
