Our Penguin Boxes

We have built penguin boxes as part of our "Actions Speak Louder than Words" unit. Our office lady has little blue penguins living under her house so we decided to make nesting boxes to put along Wainui Beach. We have been supported by Nga Manu Waiata a local community group. We followed a plan and made them using a variety of different tools. A local builder, Rob cut the wood out for us using the dropsaw.

Cutting the wood to size after we measured it.

We are hoping the kids will take ownership of a box and check up on it every few months...

  3. Dear Rm5,
What an exciting project this is. I really liked the map you all have on your own blogs which show where the boxes are. Have you gone back to the boxes yet? I would love to know what you find out.
