Christmas Fun

Do you know how to say Merry Christmas in other languages?

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we learned how to do a Google voice search to find 5 ways to say Merry Christmas in different languages. We had to put them into a table and make sure we had the language and the translation. Did you know that you can do a Google. search and sometimes you can listen to what it sounds like?

Here is Eleanor's work from today.

Real or Fake

Today in our Cybersmart lesson we were looking at images and deciding if they are real or fake.

We created our own fake photo of us doing something impossible at school. We took a photo outside and made it into the background. Then we took a photo of ourselves. We had to think about our pose. We used an online tool called Remove Background so we could put the 2 photos together.

Here is Zoe's image.

Pop Art

This term we are looking at media, what it is, how it is constructed and how we can change media online. We have to ask ourselves when we see things online if we can trust it? And the other question we must ask is "Is it real or fake?"

Today we changed a seflie and made pop art with it.

Here is Cooper's work.

Commenting on Blogs

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we were working on writing blog comments. We were writing positive comments on Room 6 @ St Mary's blog post on their Scratch Jnr projects.

We used the Dictation accessibility function on our Chromebooks. This allows us to speak and Chrome will type our words for us. It made the job a very quick one. This is also called speech-to-text.

We had to remember to say who we were so Room 6 knows where the comment shave come from. We hope they will reply to us.

Here are some of our comments...

Space Race

We have been learning how to use Scratch on our Chromebooks. We have started making a Space Race project. This might take us more than one lesson to do.

Have you used Scratch before? Scratch is an online coding platform where you can create interactive stories, games and animations and share them across the world. We are creating a story about Space because we are studying Space this term.

Kawa of Care

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we went over the Kawa of Care. We watched a video about looking after our Chromebook. Then we wrote 3 important messages on a slide.

We had to replace the image with a selfie using the camera app. We are getting really good at making sure our background is a good one and that we don't have any light behind us. We also used the Explore tool to find an image of a keyboard. We use the Explore tool because the images are labelled for reuse.

Have you got a favourite Onesie or pair of pyjamas?

Do you have dress up days at your school?

Visual Mihi

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we created a Visual Mihi.
We had to remember to only use our first name on our Google Drawing.
We had to represent 4 things about us without using words.
We could put things that we like or things that we are good at.
The images we used had to be labelled for reuse.
We used the search function in Google Drawings to do this so we could be sure that they were labelled for reuse.
Can you guess what these students like or are good at?

Chromie the Chromebook Challenge

This week in our Cybersmart lesson we did the challenge that Chromie set us so that we could earn a certificate.

We had to click > hold > drag on our touchpad to move objects around and to resize them. We had to type text in the correct places as well.

Here is Carlos' work and his certificate. Carlos was very kind and helped others because he finished before lots of others. Thank you Carlos!

Adding detail to our Writing

Room 5 have been learning to add detail to our writing to make it more interesting. We have been having a go at adding sentences about what a roller coaster ride feels like, sounds like and looks like. Here are examples of our writing.
We have created art to go with it. Come into Room 5 and check it out on the wall.

SMRF It!

Our Cybersmart work with Mrs Torrie

We find the template on our class site and click on it.
We get a "Read only" version which we cannot use.
We have to make a copy, rename it and file it.
Here is Moana's work.
